Services
The Tangipahoa Voluntary Council on Aging provides a number of services to residents of Tangipahoa Parish who are age 60 and older. While many of these services occur at one of the five Senior Centers, there are also services available for the homebound. Almost all of the services are free for seniors without regard to race, color, religion or national origin.
Senior Centers
Each of the five Senior Centers provide a variety of fun and engaging activities for the senior members of our community to partake in. Hot, well balanced meals are served daily Monday-Friday, and Senior Center activities include bingo, computer and art classes, exercise classes, socialization, fun, companionship, timely information and assistance. 
Congregate Meals
Hot, well-balanced meals are served Monday - Friday at the five Senior Centers located throughout Tangipahoa Parish. The meals are very nutritious and they provide companionship for our seniors to stay engaged with the community. Birthdays and holidays are celebrated each month to 
let our seniors know we care 
about them.
Transportation
Transportation services are offered Monday-Friday to Senior Centers, doctor and other appointments, pharmacy and grocery stores and other locations within Tangipahoa Parish. Donations are encouraged; however service will not be denied to anyone 60 years of age or older if a donation is not made. All services must be scheduled 24 hours in advance on a first come, first served basis, by calling

Nutrition Education

Home Delivered Meals
Home Delivered meals are important in helping older adults stay healthy and cared for. Five nutritious frozen meals delivered weekly to homebound residents, with milk and bread every other week. Although there is no charge for the meals, donations are welcomed and appreciated.  Special diet meals may be purchased at $6.75/meal.
Housekeeping Assistance
The Housekeeping Assistance allows elderly members of our community to receive help with some cleaning responsibilities they may not be able to do on their own. Light housekeeping is provided once or twice per month to the frailest individuals of our community.  Homemaker Services generally include bedroom, bathroom, living room and kitchen.  Some restrictions apply.
Other Services
The Tangipahoa Voluntary Council on Aging also provides:
  • Caregiver Support Service for individuals 60+ years old who are caring for an elderly loved one. 
  • Medical Alert Units for a small fee through a partnership with Acadian Ambulance Service.
  • Information and Assistance is provided through contact with other more appropriate agencies for specific needs. 
  • Continual Outreach to ensure all residents of Tangipahoa Parish are aware of the services offered by the Council on Aging.
Assessment/Screening
Trained staff visit the homes of individuals who request services such as home delivered meals and homemaker. Living conditions, isolation, economic situation and physical limitations are considered and discussed with the individual and their caregivers to determine needs and the services to be provided.
